How To Reinvent Yourself

How To Reinvent Yourself

As humans we are meant to continually grow. That growth should never stop, but sometimes you might feel as though you have been growing in the wrong direction. It happens to the best of us and when you realize that you may decide that it’s time to reinvent yourself.

There’s a difference between seeking achievement or reward constantly and the idea of a reinvention. When you are chasing a reward or an achievement, there is an end implied there. You seek it until you reach it and then that’s done. That’s not constant growth because you stop growing when you reach what you view as the end.

Reinvention leaves you far more space at the other end. There’s an endless opportunity for you to explore new things and different parts of yourself. Growth requires exploration and that is an inward journey, not an outward one. If you find something you want to change, then you have to find out how to reinvent yourself.

  • Start With A Bucket List

If you start to feel stuck, then it’s time to take a break. Think about what your life could be, think about what your career could be. There’s power in writing things out and asking yourself questions. So, write it out. More specifically, write a list of things that you would like to do before you die. It’s not only something for you to go out and act on, it’s also a great way to see if there’s a common thread running through those things you want to do or try. You may realize you’re desperate to travel. It might suddenly be a lightbulb moment about what your career should be. Just go for it.

  • Try It

We all have something we thought we would do, but that we never did. What’s yours? Don’t hold back, go out and try whatever it was you put off.

  • A Small Step

Taking a trip to somewhere you have always wanted to visit.

  • A Big Step

Doing a thing you always imagined that you would do… such as writing a script!

  • A New Initiative

This can be absolutely anything, whether it’s volunteering at the community center or going out of your way to solve a work problem.

  • A Small Step

Donate to a charity, volunteer, join a book club.

  • A Big Step

Start your own business or spearhead a new initiative at work.

  • Explore Change

We all grow restless at work. Probably because many of us end up in careers we aren’t particularly interested in. We follow a path that was laid out and by the time we realize it’s the wrong path for us it’s too late. It isn’t too late, though, because it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. You have the power to change.

  • A Small Step

Start taking online quizzes and assessments to get a better idea of what jobs you may like, whether it’s based on your interests, skills, or a combination of both.

  • A Big Step

If you’re serious about changing everything, then you could always enlist the services of a career coach.

  • Resistance

What is the habit or action associated with the part of you that you want to change? That’s a great place to start with your reinvention because it gets to the root of the issue. Your habits are what formed this thing so you have to tackle the habits. For example, you want abs. It’s a great goal, but if you simply start exercising to achieve those abs you’re probably going to fail. At the root of the issue? Your terrible diet. You need to address your diet if you want those ab exercises to reap abs.
